For
over 100 years, an unassuming block in East Stroudsburg has been the site of
entertainment and culture, a place for the community to gather for a night
out on the town. Beginning in July, the Pocono Cinema and Coffee Shop,
remodeled and reopened by John and Carolyn Yetter 10 years ago, will
transfer hands. Denise McKellick, a local artist who has worked at the
Cinema for seven years will be the new mind working behind the scenes to
bring cinematic respite to northeastern Pennsylvania.
The new name for the theater, The Grand Cinema and Coffee Shop, is inspired by its original moniker and the tradition that the theater has developed for the past 10 years. McKellick plans to continue Pocono Cinema’s mission to run artistic, controversial and thought-provoking films. As McKellick explains, “The main goal of our cinema is to connect the community through film and special events, not to mention great coffee and popcorn! We want to work with neighborhood businesses to build the Poconos for both the local community and visitors.” This summer the Grand Cinema will host film festivals and “Summer Nights Shows” in addition to their regularly scheduled first-run films.
The Grand Cinema is located at 88 South Courtland Street, East Stroudsburg, PA. Regular admission is $9.00 per person, and they offer a discounted price of $7.00 to members, people over 55 and students.
